RE
Intent: At Somerset Bridge Primary School, our intent is for all our children to learn about different religious beliefs, so that they can better understand the world around them. The purpose of Religious Education in our school is to give our children an understanding of the key beliefs of the principal religions represented in Great Britain and how religion helps to shape individuals’ lives. We aim to promote acceptance and tolerance of different views and encourage the children to use their own judgments on a variety of religious or moral issues.
Implementation:
Awareness, Mystery and Value is the agreed syllabus for Religious Education in Somerset and we explore different themes within the following religions:
- Christianity
- Islam
- Judaism
- Hinduism
We additionally implement RE in the following ways:
- Assemblies from Lorna Hazel, a chaplain from our local parish, about Bible Stories and Christian teachings.
- The Bible Society ‘Open the Book’ attend our school; giving the children the chance to act out stories from the Bible in front of an audience.
- KS1 pupils take part in an annual Nativity play at Christmas.
