Year 5 – Miss Lockwood

Welcome to the Lionel Messi class page!

This year, our class name is based on a sporting legend.  After much research, we finally voted for Lionel Messi.

The Victorians

This term, we will be finding out all about the Victorians.  We will find out about famous Victorians and how the Industrial Revolution affected people's lives.

Somerset Bridge

On the 10th November, year five walked to Somerset Bridge.  Our walk took us along Taunton Road, over the canal and alongside the River Parrettt.  We walked over the bridge and did a field sketch, before walking back to school.  Somerset Bridge is a railway and foot bridge that goes over the River Parrett and our school is named after it.  It was originally designed and built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, but the current construction was built in 1904.

William Morris

This term we have found out about the work of William Morris.  We studied some of his patterns and recreated our own.

Maths

In Maths recently, we found out about cube numbers.  To help with this new topic, we worked together to investigate what cube numbers are and how we calculate them using unifix cubes.

Road Safety Week

During Road Safety week, we reminded ourselves to 'Stop, Look, Listen and Think' before crossing the road.  We discovered the stopping distances for cars, at 20mph, 30mph and 40mph, and estimated how far these distances would be.

PE

In PE this term, we have been developing our passing skills.
