Usain Bolt – Mrs Moseley

Welcome to Usain Bolt class

The children voted for our class to be named Usain Bolt because of his amazing achievements and inspirational quotes.  Bolt says 'Win from within' and 'Believe in your dreams and that anything is possible'.  What amazing motivation for the children!

Summer 2022

In the summer term the children have been learning all about fractions.  They learn about the ‘whole’ (the denominator) and ‘part of the whole’ (the numerator).  They also add and subtract fractions with the same denominator.  The children also learn to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes.

The children continue to develop their writing skills through Talk for Writing and cross curricular opportunities.

This term they have also learnt a poem called Bed in Summer by Robert Louis Stevenson.

In winter I get up at night

And dress by yellow candle-light.

In summer, quite the other way,

I have to go to bed by day.

I have to go to bed and see

The birds still hopping on the tree,

Or hear the grown-up people's feet

Still going past me in the street.

And does it not seem hard to you,

When all the sky is clear and blue,

And I should like so much to play,

To have to go to bed by day?

Foundation subjects

What a busy term.  The children have been working hard in Science, RE, Music, French, History and Geography!  Here are a few examples of their work.  Well done year 3.

Spring 2022

World Book Day

The children had a fantastic day dressing up as an animal, plant or their favourite book character.  We read lots of books together, created books marks, made book bunting and even sorted out our book corner!  Everyone looked amazing and thoroughly enjoyed the day.  Well done Year 3.

This term the children have been learning how to multiply and divide efficiently.  They learn the formal method of column multiplication and need to know their times tables fluently.  Well done Year 3, you are all doing a great job.

The children continue to develop their English skills through Talk for Writing.  They learn a text and apply the features of the text in their independent writing.

Autumn 2021

The children have been building on their knowledge of Place Value and Addition and Subtraction.  They use place value counters so they can 'see' how the digits are manipulated.

The children started the year with fiction writing.  They have been learning how to write a 'Wishing story'.  They learn how to describe the characters in the story and the setting.  Followed by non-fiction writing on how to write persuasively.

In whole class reading, the children do a an activity based on the content of what has been read.

Look at their amazing joined handwriting.

Black History Month

The children have been learning about the Windrush generation during Black History Month.  They created a poster advertising jobs to encourage people to help rebuild Britain after WW2.
