Sky Brown – Miss Anderson

We have been learning how to play with scrap equipment safely at playtime. We learnt:

  • we can use scrap to make things using our imagination
Showed them a toy tiger and said, “This is just a tiger….what could this shoe box be?” (Took suggestions.)
  • that we must take turns fairly

We modelled taking in turns with a wheelie mop bucket - one person pushing and one person in it and then swapping. (Used this because this was the source of most arguments over lunch.)

  • how to ask for some scrap that someone else is using

If scrap is next to a child you say, “Have you finished with that?” If the answer is yes then you can take it. If the answer is no, then say “Can I have it when you are finished?” Children must keep this promise to each other. If the scrap is not next to anyone in particular, it’s fair game.

  • that we can only use scrap on scrap (scrap hitting other scrap) when playing
We cannot use scrap to hit people. We must also remember that once things are broken, they will be put in the rubbish, so look after it!

We also talked about what scrap is okay to throw (only soft scrap) and how to tidy up the scrap so it does not break or blow away and so we can keep playing with it.

Playing with scrap!

We are Sky Brown class!

The children have voted to be known as Sky Brown class. We were blown away by her amazing skateboarding, and impressed by her dedication and skill - especially since she is so young.

She won a bronze medal for Team GB in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and we are proud to have her as our class name!

Welcome to Year 1

Your children have made a fantastic start to Year 1 and you should be very proud of their excellent behaviour. They make me very proud as they walk around the school, and they show good listening and joining in when we are in class.

We are beginning our year with lots of continuous provision, to help the children feel settled and confident as we work in short whole class sessions and small groups.

If you have any questions, please do come and speak to me after school at pick-up time.
