Serena Williams– Mrs Wilkins

Welcome to Serena Williams Class

This year, our theme for our class names was 'Sporting Icons'. We chose Serena Williams because she is such an inspirational tennis player.

Our Summer topic: Ancient Greece

In our topic this term, we have been learning all about Ancient Greece. We have looked at what life would have been like for people living during this time and how the climate in Greece differs from our local area. We have talked about different Greek myths and the various Gods and Goddesses too.

In Science, we have been learning about plant and animal life cycles. We have been using technical terminology for different parts of a flowering plant and how they help the plant to reproduce. Our artwork has linked closely to this as we have learned more about observational drawing and Botanical Illustrations.

Our Spring topic - Invaders and Settlers

This term, we have learned all about the Saxons and Vikings and how they came to settle in Britain. We have learned more about how Britain was divided into different Kingdoms and how different places got their names. We designed and made our own Viking longships from clay and learned more about daily life in this time.

In Science, we learned more about the solar system and the order of the planets. We also enjoyed Science week, where we explored animal adaptations. We thought about what animals would need to survive on Mars and created our own aliens from plasticene!

Just a few of our fantastic World Book Day costumes!

We had all sorts of characters in our class to celebrate World Book Day: from Mary Poppins and Matilda, to Harry Potter and a Death Eater!

Here are some of our World Book Day poems. We took our inspiration from the book 'The Lost Worlds' by Robert McFarlane and Jackie Morris.

Black History Month October 2021

We have done a variety of activities to celebrate Black History month. We've read about the achievements of Mae Jemison, who was the first black woman to travel to space. We've also talked about racism in communities - especially in sport. We discussed how important it is to challenge racist behaviour and treat everyone with respect.

Our Autumn topic : The Victorians

This term, we are learning about the Victorians and how life was different compared with today. We have learned about the Industrial Revolution and the importance of Isambard Kingdom Brunel who designed and built bridges and railways across the country.

We are going to visit Somerset Bridge and in our DT lessons we will be designing and making bridges of our own.

Our visit to Somerset Bridge

As part of our Victorians topic, we walked to Somerset Bridge. Isambard Kindgdom Brunel, who was a famous Victorian engineer, designed this bridge that was compelted in 1841.
