I want to begin the newsletter by thanking you, the children and the staff for the welcome you have given me. Somerset Bridge is a truly wonderful school and I feel very lucky and proud to be the headteacher. Walking throughout the school, into classes and outside at playtime, I have been impressed with the attitude and enthusiasm of the children and the relationships that they have with each other and the staff at the school. Every year group has made a very settled start to the school year, but I do want to mention our Year Six children and the role models they have been and also our Reception children who have started brilliantly. Thank you everyone. I am really excited about the years ahead.
Wishing you and your families a very enjoyable half-term.
We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded our Green Flag Winner 2026 Award.
Autumn Term Sports Events
Boys & Girls Futsal.
A big well done to our boys and girls futsal teams who played in tournaments at Haygrove and BCA. Both teams showed fantastic teamwork and effort and played brilliantly. The boys finished in 4th place in their group and the girls finished in 3rd place out of 6 schools.
Boys team: Captain Marley, Codey, Archie, Harvey, Corey, Max, Filip.
Big Congratulations to our girls' football team who went to Bridgwater College and finished in 1st place out of 11 schools to become the Sedgemoor schools girls football champions. They played amazingly and won 5 games, scoring a total of 12 goals with some impressive football. The final was a 1-1 draw and went to a penalty shoot-out that we managed to win. It was a fantastic achievement, which means they have qualified for the Somerset County Finals in January. Well done girls and good luck at the Finals.
A huge well done to all the children who went to represent our school in the Sedgemoor schools Cross Country races at Brymore Academy. We are really proud of the effort of all the runners. Thank you to parents for your support and for taking the children to this event. Results will be posted in the next Newsletter.
