As we get closer to the Easter holidays, I wanted to share how proud we are of the children this term. They’ve shown great energy, kindness and enthusiasm in their learning, and it’s been lovely to see them growing in confidence.
You may have noticed that work has started on refurbishing two classrooms. This is all part of getting ready for the new special school provision opening on site shortly after Easter. The builders will be carrying on with the work over the holidays, so everything is set up for the next steps. Work will also start outside with storage on our Key Stage 2 playground being replaced along with an outside play area to support the specialist provision coming to the school.
A big thank you to The Friends for running another successful bingo event last Friday. Thank you to everyone who came along or contributed, we’ve raised over £1,600 for the school, a fantastic amount that will really benefit the children.
I hope you all have a lovely, restful Easter break. We look forward to welcoming the children back for an exciting Summer Term.

The NCPCC and Vodafone have created an online tool to help parents decide whether their child is ready to have their own phone.
This might come in useful as families start to think about their Year 6 children moving on to secondary schools and some parents feel it would be useful for staying in touch when their child is out alone or travelling to school. Children might want their own phone now because their friends have one and they would feel left out. But how can you ensure your child is safe online?
This on line checking tool includes 8 short questions and should take around 10 minutes to complete. You can access it here:
With so many apps, games, and websites out there, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But the good news is you’re not alone. For practical information from trusted places, the Government has released the following support. This will help you feel more confident on the steps you can take to protect your child online.
The Ambassadors ran an art competition for the whole school around the theme of diversity. They asked children across school to produce pieces of art that celebrated our differences and recognised how important it is that we celebrate each other. We had just over 200 entries, and it took the Ambassadors a long time to decide on the winners from each year group. Well done to Simina (Reception), Rut (Year 1), Naomi (Year 2), Olivia (Year 3), Teddy and Freddy (Year 4), Tiyanna and Lottie (Year 5) and Noah (Year 6). Their winning art is now displayed on our diversity display board and each received a certificate and a special prize! Thank you to all that took part!
Young Carers Live Author Session
Mrs Evans and Jo were very excited for our KS2 Young Carers to be invited to a live session with Rab Ferguson (author of the ‘Late Gang’ series of books). During the session, Rab talked about the characters in his books and how they reflect the important role that Young Carers play. He also taught the children how to design their own characters for a story and the children had a go at drawing their own. Much fun was had by all the older children, and they showed our younger Young Carers how to create their own characters too!
RSPCA Workshop
We have been lucky to be able to invite Alex in from the RSPCA to lead pet welfare workshops across school. She worked with every class across school to help the children learn all about what a pet needs to be happy, safe and healthy. The children all had the opportunity to make a treat package for either a cat or a dog too. Thank you to all the families who donated cardboard rolls for the event and to Nestle who kindly donated all the cat and dog treats!
Rail Safety Assembly
The children learnt all about how to keep themselves safe whilst in the station and how to catch a train safely, including what to do at level crossings!
Reception Classes
The reception children have had some visitors!!
We had some eggs delivered in an incubator and we have been watching them hatch into chicks.
Chicks Hatching
The children loved learning about the chick's life cycle, how they hatch and watching them eat and drink.
Did you know that it can take a chick up to 64 hours just to peck through the inner part and the external part of the egg to hatch! We were lucky and we had 9 chicks! It is amazing how quickly they grow and how noisy they can be!

Year 2
Year 2 had a fantastic time on their trip to the Bristol Aquarium. The children loved getting up close to the marine life, especially when they had the chance to feed some of the fish and turtles! They also explored a fascinating collection of artefacts, from shells to shark teeth, giving them a real hands-on experience. The children’s behaviour on the trip was exemplary and they showed their curiosity about the marine life they encountered by asking great questions.
Year 4 Spotlight
Year 4 have been diving enthusiastically into their Science topic on Humans and Other Living Creatures, and the classroom has been buzzing with curiosity. From hands-on investigations to thoughtful discussions, the children have shown real excitement and maturity in their learning. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they ask big questions and make new discoveries about the living things that share our planet.
We had a brilliant time exploring this Science topic this term, diving into the fascinating world of humans and other living things. We began by learning about the different types of teeth and their functions, discovering how incisors, canines, and molars each play a special role in helping us eat. This led to discussions about the importance of keeping teeth clean, supported by a fun and eye-opening experiment using eggshells to observe how different liquids can affect tooth enamel.
The children also developed a strong understanding of the human digestive system, learning to name and explain the journey food takes through the body. To bring this to life, they took part in a hands-on experiment that replicated the digestive process from start to finish—an unforgettable (and slightly messy) way to see science in action. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and thoughtful questions have made this topic a real highlight of the term.
This term, the children have been learning to swim at Burnham-on-Sea swimming pool. The instructors have made each lesson fun while building confidence, water safety, and strong early technique. With gentle guidance and plenty of smiles, the children are progressing at their own pace and developing a positive, lasting connection with the water. We have also taken part in extra PE lessons and House events, such as Boccia and volleyball.
In Geography, we have discovered that coastlines are constantly changing, shaped by powerful natural forces. We have looked at how cracks, caves, arches, stacks and stumps are formed and have compared Burnham beach with Lyme Regis. Outside, in the school grounds, we have used compasses and navigated our way around the school field.
To hook us into our new English topic, the children explored the school grounds with great excitement, hunting for weird and wonderful ingredients to mix into their own magical potion. They gathered crunchy leaves, feathery grasses, fallen petals, and mysterious twigs, imagining each one adding a special power. Every discovery sparked new ideas about what their potion might do. Back in class, they combined their treasures, describing bubbling colours, swirling smells, and extraordinary effects in recipes. The activity encouraged creativity, teamwork, and plenty of laughter as children invented wild, marvellous mixtures that felt straight out of a storybook. We will now look at an excerpt from George’s Marvellous medicine for the next few weeks.
Year 5 Classes
Year 5 have been enthusiastically learning about the Vikings, exploring who they were, where they came from, and how they lived. This week, we brought our learning to life by using our knowledge and creative skills to design and make Viking longships out of clay. The children carefully shaped and detailed their models, thinking about key features such as clinked hulls, figureheads, and shields along the sides. It has been wonderful to see their creativity and understanding come together in such a hands-on and engaging way.
Some children in Year 5 have also been taking part in Bikeability sessions, where they have been learning how to stay safe while cycling on the road. They have practised important skills such as checking their surroundings, signalling clearly, and understanding how to position themselves safely in traffic. The children have shown great focus and responsibility, building their confidence as they develop the knowledge needed to cycle safely and responsibly.

World Book Day
We celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 5th March and had a fantastic time. The children loved dressing up as their favourite book characters and sharing stories with children from other classes. We also enjoyed making our own creative book covers, using our imagination to design exciting new stories. One of the highlights of the day was spending some quiet reading time together in the castle gazebo, which made the experience even more special.
Comic Relief
The Red Nose Day Cake Sale was a great success. Thank you to everyone that donated cakes, bought cakes and helped on the day. We raised a fantastic £260 which will all be sent to Comic Relief to help their many charities, both here in the UK and abroad.

Reminders
Appointments:
We understand that appointments cannot always be made outside of school hours. If your child has an appointment during school hours, please let the School Office know and bring the medical evidence with you for authorisation.
Absences:
If your child is absent, please remember to ring school before 8.30am and leave a message on the absence line. In your message leave your child's full name and clearly specify the reason they are not at school. For example, if your child has a temperature, please say that your child has a temperature and not just state that they are ill.
Toilet:
Please note the toilets are only for our pupils that attend the school. If you or your child need the toilet, please come to the School Office.
Clothing:
We seem to accumulate a lot of lost property at the end of each term. Please ensure you label your child's clothing, drinks bottles and lunchboxes.
