Headteacher's Welcome
The children have made a positive start to the year, settling into their routines and engaging well with their learning. It’s been encouraging to see their confidence grow and their curiosity flourish across the school. My thanks to all of our teachers, teaching assistants, and support staff. Their dedication and teamwork have helped make this half term a smooth and productive one for everyone.
Thank you to all parents and carers who attended our recent Parents’ Evening. Your support and involvement make a real difference, and it was good to have those conversations about how the children are progressing.
We’ve seen some great participation and success in local sports events this term. Our teams have represented the school with commitment and teamwork, and we’re proud of their efforts. Thank you to Mr Birch and Mr Matsitsiro for their hard work and encouragement in preparing our pupils so well.
Looking ahead, preparations for Christmas will begin after the break. It’s always a busy time, but one filled with excitement and creativity, and we’re looking forward to sharing it with you.
Finally, I want to thank those of you who have sent kind messages following the announcement of my leaving Somerset Bridge. I’m grateful for your thoughtful words and support it means a great deal.
Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable half-term.

Keeping children safe
The way children experience the internet has fundamentally changed, as new laws under the Online Safety Act have come into force to protect under-18s from harmful online content they shouldn’t ever be seeing.
Platforms are required to use secure methods like facial scans, photo ID and credit cards checks to verify the age of their users. This means it will be much harder for under-18s to accidentally or intentionally access harmful content.
Data privacy
While people might see more steps to prove their age when signing up or browsing age-restricted content, they won’t be compromising their privacy.
The measures platforms have to put in place must confirm your age without collecting or storing personal data, unless absolutely necessary. For example, facial estimation tools can estimate your age from an image without saving that image or identifying who you are. Many third-party solutions have the ability to provide platforms with an answer to the question of whether a user is over 18, without sharing any additional data relating to the user’s identity.

Spotlight - Reception Classes
We can’t believe that it is the end of the children’s first half term. This term we have been helping the children to settle into their new school life and we have been making new friends. We have been learning about how special we all are. We looked at ‘Superduper you’ and talked about why we are all special.
We drew pictures of ourselves and our families. The children loved the story ‘Supertato.’ We designed our own superhero masks and capes. We even thought about what super powers we would love to have. We painted some fabulous pictures of Supertato.
The reception children have been learning the story of the Little Red Hen. We were lucky enough to have a real-life hen come to see us.

Liz from farm link came to visit and tell us the story of the Little Red Hen. The children met Mary the hen. We found out about how bread is made. We looked at ears of corn and wheat grain. We even planted our own wheat grain!

The children loved having the opportunity to grind the wheat into flour.
We then ended our workshop by giving Mary some bread to eat. Mary was really excited when the bread came out and stretched her head up ready for her treat.

Year 3 had a great time visiting the Somerset Brick and Tile Museum in Bridgwater. The children dressed up in Victorian clothes and learned how bricks and tiles were made a long time ago using clay, water, and fire in a big brick kiln. They saw old tools and machines, and found out how hard people used to work.
The children made their own clay tile, pressing patterns into the soft clay just like Victorian workers did. Everyone enjoyed getting their hands messy, dressing up, and learning something new. It was a fun trip full of history, creativity, and discovering how things were made in the past!

Year 5 Classes
SARI (Stand Against Racism and Inequality Workshop
During the autumn term, Alex from the charity SARI (Stand Against Racism and Inequality) visited Year 5 to deliver an engaging and thought-provoking diversity workshop.
He spoke to the class about the nine protected characteristics and why it’s so important to treat everyone with kindness and respect. The children took part in a word-sorting activity, where they explored how different words can make people feel and discussed the impact language can have on others. Together, we reflected on the importance of using words thoughtfully and in the right context to help create a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone.

Residential Trip to Kilve Court.
Last month, many of the Year 6 children took part in an exciting residential trip to Kilve Court.
Going on a residential is a fantastic opportunity to develop new skills and build confidence away from home. The children enjoyed a wide range of activities, including raft building on the lake, abseiling down a high tower, high ropes, grass sledging, shelter building, and more!
Many of the activities focused on teamwork. Whether it was solving puzzles, building structures, or encouraging one another through a challenge, working together was key. The children learned how to listen, support each other, and appreciate that everyone brings different strengths to a team.
It was a brilliant experience, and Year 6 had a great time!

A Message From Our Site Manager
Please do not litter whilst using our visitor car park.
Just a reminder that parents and carers are not to park or drop off on the zig zags located at the front of the school. This is an incredibly dangerous thing during the rush hour periods, particularly with children travelling into and out of school.
Only School Taxis and parents and carers with approved badges should be using the visitor car park. You should have a passed to park pass issued by the School Office.
Thank you to the parents who have supported our message about parking bikes and scooters in the shelters- this has already made a big difference.
Thank you in advance
