Year 1

Welcome to Year 1!

Mrs Moseley's class have chosen to be named after Guglielmo Marconi. Marconi was an Italian scientist and inventor. He built the first wireless telegraph, which sent messages through the air for the first time. This invention was the starting point for radio.

Miss Anderson's class chose to be named after Nicolaus Copernicus. Five hundred years ago, Polish polymath Copernicus developed the heliocentric theory - proving that the planets went around the sun.

We went to the Bristol Zoo Project.

Alongside Maths, English and Foundation subjects, the children have the opportunity to embed their learning through planned independent activities.

Maths

The children have been learning to count accurately, they use concrete resources to embed their understanding. Counting forwards and backwards happens every day in Year 1 then the children move on to addition and subtraction, which includes fact families.

English

We are learning to retell the story of The Three Little Pigs fluently.

Art

The children enjoyed exploring Art in Year 1. They have been drawing images using thick and thin lines and have also learnt about primary colours and discovered that different colours can be made when primary colours are mixed.
