Welcome to our class page! We have all made a great start to Year 6 and are working hard.
We are enjoying our brand new classroom and have started to make some great displays, including a World War One themed one, where we all made a poppy out of felt. There was some neat sewing that took place and they all look very effective.
On the 22nd September, we took part in Democracy Day. This included finding out all about parliament and taking part in a class debate on whether or not children should go to school on a Saturday morning! The children had lots of strong views on this topic and argued their points well. In the end we voted, and the result was 15 votes against coming to school on a Saturday and 9 for. Josh did a great job as Speaker of the House and managed to keep everyone in order.
Well done to Katie and Rylan who helped Ms Harrington with the Polling Station all morning and did a fantastic job. Congratulations also to Zak and Callum, who were elected to represent the class as our new school council reps.
Year 6 Camp Week.
A great time was had by everyone this week.
Those staying at school, had loads of fun with Mrs Bunce. This included: tie-dying T-shirts; doing lots of art and craft activities; and playing games.
Those on the residential, took part in: climbing, caving, team-building games, canoeing and high-ropes. We had a great time and enjoyed spending so much time together.
Autumn Term 2.
This half term has gone quickly as we have all been very busy. We have enjoyed our weekly swimming lessons and many of us swam a length in our lesson on the 29th November; this was a great achievement for some because it was the first time that they had done this.
On Remembrance Day, we attended a service at North Petherton Church with other Year 6 children from three local schools. David, Victor, Jemma and Ruby did a great job in reading out poems during the service. We also performed a song called "Refuge" during a class assembly in this week and sang beautifully.
After completing our assessment week this week, we are all proud of the progress we are making and are also looking forward to the next two weeks preparing for Christmas.
Spring Term 1.
Our main topic this half term is Light and Electricity. We have enjoyed carrying out several experiments to show how light travels; how shadows are made; and how light can be reflected using mirrors. This fitted in well with our Collaborate Week, as we all had to work well together, either in pairs or as a small group.
Spring Term 2.
At the start of term, we had a Yoga session for our PE lesson. We especially enjoyed the pair yoga and did some impressive poses as shown below.
Here are some more photos of us conducting a science experiment in class; enjoying World Book Day; and some examples of our work that we have been doing when investigating Fairtrade.
Artwork completed on World Book Day, 2017.
Making a steady-hand game!
We all worked really hard for our SATs, and enjoyed our celebration afterwards when we went to the cinema and had a party at reflections.
This half term, we have been studying volcanoes and have made some in class. After the break, we will make them erupt using bicarbonate of soda and vinegar.
Summer Term 2.
We've had a busy start to our last half-term at Somerset Bridge: Theme Week; the Year 5/6 sleepover; and then a "design a building" workshop that was run by Bridgwater Arts Centre.
