Autumn Term

The children have all settled into school really well.  They have all made lots of friends and are now used to the school routines.  We have learnt two stories through Talk for Writing - The Little Red Hen and The Three Little Pigs.  Maybe the children have told you the stories at home?  We have just performed our first nativity play to our families and the children were fantastic! We are VERY excited about Christmas and we are busy making lots of Christmassy things.  We would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year.

Spring Term

The children have come back to school after the Christmas break with really positive attitudes.  We have been learning the story of Jack and the Beanstalk in Talk for Writing and the children have all planted some seeds as we are also learning about growth and what plants need to be able to grow.  The children have started joining the rest of the school every Friday for our celebration assembly and they are managing to sit really sensibly for this fairly long assembly - we are very proud of them.  Linking in with our study of Fairy Tales and Traditional Tales, we had a theatre company visit us this week and we watched a brilliant production of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  Afterwards the children took part in a workshop and they became good and bad story characters/objects.

Summer Term

We have been very busy this half term.  We have been learning the story of Titch and the children made beautiful story maps of their own and took a copy home and told the story to their parents.  As part of our topic where we looked at growth in humans, plants and animals we looked at our baby photos and compared what we could do as a baby to what we can do now.  We also had baby caterpillars in our class and we watched their life-cycle through to releasing the butterflies.  We are getting very excited about our school trip which takes place in June.  In mathematics we have been using Numicon and ice cube trays with clickit cubes to practise addition and subtraction.
