Mr Ryder – DiCaprio Class
Home Learning Update
As some children will be returning to school on June 2nd, the way home learning is being provided will be changing due to most staff working with children in school.
Home learning projects will continue to be uploaded to the school website on a weekly basis and will now be for specific key stages, rather than year groups: Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2), Lower Key Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4) and Upper Key Stage 2 (Years 5 and 6).
Instead of logging onto a specific class page to access the home learning, you will now need to go to the Children menu on the website – Home Learning Projects and select the relevant key stage for your child.
We will continue to use the key stage email addresses, but these may not be answered from your child’s teacher. The following teachers will respond to the emails:
Reception and Year 1 and 2 - Miss White
Year 3 and 4 - Mrs Palmer (Mr Staveley will continue to respond to any Nightingale emails)
Year 5 and 6 - Mr Staveley
It has been lovely to receive some of the children’s work, but we now ask that the home learning email addresses are no longer used for sending in children’s work. The named teachers will be available only for questions regarding the work set.
There will also be no weekly spelling lists for classes. Please use the spelling tasks on each of the weekly projects to support practicing specific sounds and letter patterns alongside year group common exception words.
Thank you for continuing to support you child/children with their home learning.
Spot the staff babies
It's half term so we thought you might like a fun activity to do. In the first attached document you will see pictures of 29 of our staff as babies. In the second document you will see the names of the staff. Can you match the names to the correct staff pictures? Look back here on Friday 29th May to check how many you got right. Good luck!

HALF TERM BREAK
Hello everyone! How are you all doing? I hope you're all well and happy and staying safe.
There will be no home learning project set for next week as it is our usual half term break. There will also be no Zoom meeting on Monday. We'd like you to have a rest next week: go out in the garden, get on your bikes, relax and have some quality family time.
I have been thinking of you all a lot and would be happy to see what you have been up to at home this week. Please send me your work and pictures to the usual KS1 learning e mail address. Keep an eye on the school website for further updates.
Class Zoom 18/5/20
This week, we will be sharing something we have done at home. Maybe something from one of your home learning project - some writing, some Maths or something you have made. Bring it along to the meeting!
I already have many of your email addresses and will send an invitation out to you on Friday afternoon. If you haven’t emailed me already and you would like to join in with a meeting you need to ask your parents to send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org I will then send them an invitation to join in. Don’t forget that the same rules apply!
Hope to see you there!
After last week’s successful class Zoom meeting, we would like to offer you the opportunity to meet with your teacher and your classmates each week using Zoom. The meetings will take place every Monday at 2pm.
The meetings will last for about 30 minutes. There will be a different focus for each meeting. This week I will be reading a story and if you’ve been reading something good at home, you can tell us all about it too.

At the meeting you will need to know that;
· The meeting must not be recorded.

· Your parents need to be present in the room where you have the meeting.
· Teachers will lock the meeting once everyone has joined so that no-one can join who hasn’t been invited.
· Teachers will be able to remove or mute people who do not follow the rules.
· Parents need to read Zoom’s terms and conditions, so they are sure of what Zoom is all about.
I look forward to seeing you there!
Welcome to DiCaprio Class!
Week 9 W/B 18.05.2020
Hi, again DiCaprio class. it has been lovely to see a lot of the pictures of the work you have been doing over this last week. It was great to see so many of you in the Zoom meeting on Monday and I look forward to seeing you all next Monday in our next meeting.
This week I have been writing some of your reports and looking back on lots of the things we have covered in our learning and it has been nice to reflect on all the progress that you have made.
I hope you are well and that you are managing to have lots of fun with your families.
In the Zoom session today I mentioned the X-Wing fighter I made with my daughter Elsie. Here it is.
Hi DiCaprio Class. I hope you are all doing well and that you have been enjoying the good weather this weekend.
We put the paddling pool out yesterday and it was so hot yesterday that I jumped in it too! I have also made a table from old scaffolding planks and Enid helped me paint it yesterday.
Many thanks to Daniel. S, Oliver, Bethany, Oliver.D, Emily, Jasmine and Leonard for your VE Day work. We will be deciding next week about which one will go through to the competition!
We celebrated VE Day on Friday and my family and I painted some bunting and put it outside our house and we chatted together as a family about how brave the soldiers were who were involved and took some time to remember them and to be thankful for peace.
Don't forget to keep sending me your work or some photos of something epic you have discovered. Use the KS1 email address firstname.lastname@example.org

Hi DiCaprio Class. I hope you and your families are all well.
I was on rota at Somerset Bridge last week and it was nice to catch up with the staff and children that were at the school. I hope you are well. My family and I have been trying to make the most of the good weather and have been out for nice walks. My daughters had lots of fun hiding in the long grass. We have also been planting lettuce and flowers in the garden which has been great fun. I do like getting my hands in the soil and growing things. It is very satisfying. I have included a picture of my cauliflower which is the best I've grown so far! I will be taking out today and eating for my supper. Also, our cat Wilbur has started going out more and has made friends with the cat next door.
It has been a real pleasure to see the work you have been doing at home. Well done. Keep it up. I know it can be hard at times. My daughters find it a struggle at times. But we find that if you get your work done and plan something fun to do together in the afternoon it makes it easier.
I am looking forward to seeing some of you on Monday 4th May for the Zoom session at 2pm. I think it will be lots of fun. Remember you don't have to talk if you feel shy, you can just give me a wave. It will be just nice to see you and for us to be together as a class online.
Mrs Donaldson wanted to say hello.
I hope you are all managing to do some fun things at home as well as your school activities!
I have been enjoying spending time with my family helping them with their school work. I have also been doing some online learning on my laptop.
My children love doing the Joe Wickes workout in the mornings. Have any of you had a go at that?
I have also been playing lots of different board games with my family, it’s been nice to have the time to do this as normally everyone is too busy.
My favourite thing to do is walking my dog, Polly(see the photo below) she loves taking her daily walk around the country park and I love looking at the trees beginning to get their new leaves and listening to the birds. I stopped on one of the bridges the other day and looking into the water I saw a huge pike (which is a fish) just enjoying the sunshine in the water.
I think about you all every day and miss our chats about the different things you have been up to.
Take care children and if you see me around with my dog having our walk then give me a wave.
We are offering you the opportunity to meet with your teacher and your classmates using Zoom. The meetings will take place next week on:
Monday 4th May at 2pm – Year one classes
The meetings will last for a maximum of 30 minutes, the focus of the meeting will be to say hello and share what you’ve been learning at home.
If you would like to join in with a meeting you need to ask your parents to send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org I will then send them an invitation to join in. I would like to know if you want to join the meeting by Thursday 30th April. I will then send you your invitation.
On Monday you will need to click on the link in the email I send you so that you can join the meeting at 2pm. At the meeting you will need to know that;
- The meeting must not be recorded.
- You will need to think carefully about where you are when you join the meeting and what you are wearing so that you are ready to meet with all of your classmates.
- Your parents need to be present in the room where you have the meeting.
- Teachers will lock the meeting once everyone has joined so that no-one can join who hasn’t been invited.
- Teachers will be able to remove or mute people who do not follow the rules.
- Parents need to read Zoom’s terms and conditions, so they are sure of what Zoom is all about.
Hopefully see you there!

I have uploaded the week's home learning.
We now have an email address where you can share with me the work you have been doing at home. Maybe you have a question you’d like to ask me too. Each week I'll be asking you to send me a piece of your work based on the Learning Project I am asking you to do.
This week, I’d like you to send me something you are proud of. This could be from any of the Learning Projects you have done so far.

Hope you have a good break this week.
