Miss Constable

This term Year 5 have been looking at World War One and using the story War Horse by Michael Morpurgo to write action scenes. We have also written War Poetry, based on In Flanders Fields. Here is some of our learning from this topic.

Music based on "It's a Long Way to Tipperary" using percussion instruments.

Drama based on an action scene from War Horse

Exploring Forces

As part of our Forces topic in the Autumn Term, we explored mechanisms such as pulleys, levers, and gears by making our own using the materials in the classroom. The children were very inventive and showed excellent collaboration skills in making a whole class pulley that could carry small objects the entire length of the classroom!

For Children in Need this year, we wore our pajamas to school! In the afternoon we got to host the Pufferfish (Mrs Argrave's class) and had fun sharing board games with the younger children.

It was wonderful to see how well the children from both classes taught each other new games and helped everyone get involved and have a good time.

Drama for A Christmas Carol, and making salt dough

Take a look at Year 5's Christmas dance lesson:

Investigating solutions and mixtures

This term, as part of our Materials topic in Science, we explored mixtures and solutions and how they can be separated. We were challenged to use a range of resources, including funnels, filter paper, magnets and sieves, to seperate as many different materials as possible from a mixture. This challenged our team work skills and our understanding of the properties of materials.

Performing Kenning Poems

Drama based on The Wizard Of Oz
