Welcome to the Lionel Messi class page!
This year, our class name is based on a sporting legend. After much research, we finally voted for Lionel Messi.
Summer Term
Ancient Greece
In the summer term, we found out about Ancient Greece. We looked at the geographical features of Greece and read some myth and legends.
Science
In Science, we found out about Living Things. We explored the school grounds and identified different trees and flowers. We then dissected a flower and labelled the different parts.
Spring Term
Invaders and Settlers
This term, we found out about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. We discovered where they came from and why they invaded.
Viking Longships
We looked at the features of a Viking Longship and why they were built in such a way. To show our knowledge, we wrote a non-chronological report. We then used clay to make the base of a longship and decorated the sails and shields.
Solar System
In Science, we looked at the order of the planets in the solar system and their relative distances.
Science Week
We started Science week with a special assembly. During the week, we carried out a range of experiments including: DNA, gloop and habitats.
Autumn Term
The Victorians
This term, we will be finding out all about the Victorians. We will find out about famous Victorians and how the Industrial Revolution affected people's lives.
Somerset Bridge
On the 10th November, year five walked to Somerset Bridge. Our walk took us along Taunton Road, over the canal and alongside the River Parrettt. We walked over the bridge and did a field sketch, before walking back to school. Somerset Bridge is a railway and foot bridge that goes over the River Parrett and our school is named after it. It was originally designed and built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, but the current construction was built in 1904.
William Morris
This term we have found out about the work of William Morris. We studied some of his patterns and recreated our own.
Maths
In Maths recently, we found out about cube numbers. To help with this new topic, we worked together to investigate what cube numbers are and how we calculate them using unifix cubes.
Road Safety Week
During Road Safety week, we reminded ourselves to 'Stop, Look, Listen and Think' before crossing the road. We discovered the stopping distances for cars, at 20mph, 30mph and 40mph, and estimated how far these distances would be.
PE
In PE this term, we have been developing our passing skills.
