Key Stage 1
VIRTUAL SUMMER READING CHALLENGE 2020
The summer holidays are a great time to take off to new places , escape to a faraway land and meet some new friends - all from the comfort of your own home. Reading gives children the opportunity to improve their reading fluency , expand their vocabulary and learn more about the world around them. The Summer Reading Challenge gives children all this and more for free! This year, we will be rewarding ALL children who complete the challenge, with a book of their choice to keep. Just bring your certificate back to school in September to claim your prize.
Well done to those of you who have already signed up to this year's challenge. It's not too late - you can still sign up now to get reading over the summer holiday. Help on how to sign up can be found on an additional document below. Get involved and enjoy all your reading adventures!
Final Class Zoom sessions
The final class zoom sessions for the year will take place next week (w/b 13/7/20.) This is a chance for the children to say ‘goodbye’ to each other and their teacher before the summer break and to meet their new teacher.
We would like to give as many children as possible the opportunity to attend. Invitations will be sent to regular attenders as normal but if you would like to join in, you can request an invitation through the key stage e mails.
Some classes have made a slight change to their usual times – please see below:
DiCaprio class Zoom - MONDAY 3:20-3:50
Hillary Class Zoom – TUESDAY 3:15-3:45
Armstrong class Zoom – WEDNESDAY 3:45-4:15

KS1 Zoom 6/7/20
As we get closer to the end of the school year, this week we would like you to reflect on your time in Year 1 and 2. Take some time to think about what is your best memory from this year. We will share our memories in this week's Zoom.
We are looking forward to seeing you all next week. Have a lovely weekend,
Mr Ryder, Miss Martin, Mrs Argrave and Miss White.
Send us your Learning!
Last week, we asked you to send in your work on a specific day. From now on, you can send it to us when you have finished it, whenever you like! We really want to see what more of you have been doing at home. At home, you should be:
- reading everyday
- using your Maths brain
- practising your writing skills
- practising your phonics – reading and writing.
- getting creative.
The Learning Projects on the school website are there to engage you in this learning at home. We expect to see something from everyone in our classes, sent in to the key stage learning e mail address each week. Send something you have done at home to us when you have finished it. We will reply and upload your work to the school website. *
Send your work to Miss White here:
Even though you are at home, keeping up with your learning is very important so that when you do come back to school, you are ready for the next step.
We look forward to hearing from you!
Hello everyone! I hope you are all happy and healthy and have had a good week at home or school. Thank you and well done to everyone who has taken part in the Virtual Sports Day this week. Mr Croker is busy counting your scores to see who the winning house is...

Have good weekend and stay safe
Hello everyone! I hope you are all safe and well. I have had a busy week thanks to all of you who have sent me some of your fantastic learning. Thank you and well done! I know it can be hard to keep going when you are at home, away from your classroom , teachers and friends but keep going! You are doing very well.
I hope you enjoy this week's project which is all called 'Famous and Significant People'.
Parents: You will also see an extra document providing you with year group specific Maths lessons. These continue to be the Oak Academy video lessons we have been using, so please try and do one lesson a day.
I hope you all have a good, relaxing weekend (and that the rain stops!)
Good afternoon to you all! How are you? I hope you are all happy and healthy and have had an exciting, busy week. I know many of you are working hard at home and some of you are at school. I know what the children at school are doing but I don't know what some of you are doing at home. If you haven't sent me any of your learning yet, then I want to hear from you! Please send it to me at our usual address.
If you have sent me your work, THANK YOU and keep it coming! I love to see what you've been doing.
We hope you enjoy the Rainforest project this week. There are also spellings for you to practise too.
Have a lovely weekend,
Reading support – new resources!
To encourage and maintain the children’s reading while away from school, we now have access to Collins Big Cat ebooks for you to use at home. These books are also used at school and so will be familiar to the children.
They can be accessed on any device by going to https://connect.collins.co.uk/school/SOMERSET2/Student/ .
Here you can login using these details:
Yr grp: 1
*Please note, these are generic login details for all children.
Once you click on the Big Cat icon, you will see a library full of e books to choose from. Select the colour band your child accesses at school and choose your book!
The book will be read to you AND you can read it yourself. Simply turn off the sound on your device. At the end, there is a quiz for the children to do based on what they have just read.
Some of the books have additional activities to complete. Use the link below to access these.
We hope these help you at home to keep the children reading. If we can be of further support, please let us know.
