Ellen MacArthur – Miss Woodhead
Welcome to Ellen MacArthur Class!
We have had a great first half term at school and have settled in well to the daily routines. The children are really loving school and have made some great friendships. They have spent their time exploring the classroom and all of the resources and activities that are available to them! As you will see from the photos, they are having lots of fun! I am super proud of how the children are getting on with their phonics and maths. They are super eager to learn which is lovely to see.
As a class we have chosen Dame Ellen MacArthur as our sporting icon. We have been learning about her sporting achievements and her charity work. We all agree she is the right person to be named after this year!
Spring
We have had a great half term, with lots of learning. We have been busy learning our Talk for Writing Story, The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The children have loved using the story map to act out the story and building their own bridge using the big wooden blocks. The children furthered their learning by investigating what type of material made the best bridge for the goats. They used recyclable materials such as boxes and compared it to bridges made from lego and wooden building blocks! In Literacy, the children have been looking at writing words and some have even been writing sentences.. which is brilliant!! In Maths, the children have been working really hard on their number sense and some children have been writing number sentences!!
We had a great time learning about Chinese New Year and all about Tigers as it is the year of the Tiger... Ellen MacArthur Class have a very loud roar!!
