Dear Year 4,

During the heat wave, it is important to stay safe, cool and hydrated. Here are some activities you can enjoy:

  • Read a favourite book in a cool, shaded area.
  • Create a colourful summer picture using crayons, pencils or paints.
  • Write a short story about a magical ice cream that never melts.
  • Make a paper fan and decorate it with bright patterns.
  • Complete a nature diary by observing plants, birds or insects from a window or garden.
  • Practise times tables with a partner or family member, or join the challenge on TTRockstars https://play.ttrockstars.com/
  • Build a model using LEGO, construction toys or recycled materials.
  • Play board games, card games or simple puzzles indoors.
  • Listen to an audiobook or calming music while relaxing.
  • Design a healthy picnic menu with refreshing fruits and drinks.
  • Try a scavenger hunt around the house, finding objects of different colours and shapes.
  • Learn a few simple yoga stretches in a cool room.
  • Create a comic strip about a superhero who can control the weather.
  • Keep a heat-wave journal and record the temperature, weather and daily activities.
  • Help make a fruit salad or healthy snack with an adult.
  • Find out some interesting facts about the Egyptians https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zg87xnb

Remember to drink plenty of water, wear light clothing, stay in the shade when outdoors and take regular breaks from energetic activities. Most importantly, have fun while keeping cool and safe!
