From the Yr 6 team.
Welcome to Year 6! There are two classes – Ignaz Semmelweis and Tim Peake.

Ignaz Philipp Semmelweis was a Hungarian physician and scientist of German descent who was an early pioneer of antiseptic procedures and was described as the "saviour of mothers".
Tim Peake is a British astronaut who became the first British European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut to visit the International Space Station (ISS). He was born on 7th April 1972 in Chichester, England. Before becoming an astronaut, he was a helicopter pilot and a major in the British Army. Tim Peake is a real-life space hero and his mission has inspired many adults and children to learn more about space and science!
So, what do we do?
In English, we use a range of challenging texts and write across a variety of genres, including narrative, biography, and poetry. In mathematics, we consolidate key skills in calculation, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, and algebra, applying these to problem-solving across the curriculum. Our curriculum is broad and exciting; the children will explore World War II, evolution and inheritance, electricity, biomes and so much more!
Year 6 is packed with memorable experiences that build teamwork and personal development. From the residential school trip to Kilve Court to the final end-of-year production, we always aim for the children to develop confidence, resilience and independence. Throughout the year, we focus heavily on preparing children for the transition to Year 7, ensuring they leave Somerset Bridge Primary School ready and well-prepared for secondary school.

Reading is really important to us. How many of the following books have you read?
