This half term we have enjoyed learning the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We have looked at the life cycle of the butterfly and after Easter we will have some live caterpillars to watch. We have had tadpoles in our class for the children to look at. The children really enjoyed Red Nose Day and most children in our class had a go at auditioning for the talent show - we were very proud of them for being so brave. In maths we have been doing addition and subtraction and in literacy we are learning the final Phase 3 sounds. Lots of our children are showing an interest in writing sentences which is lovely.
This half term our topic has been based around the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. Once again the children have been amazing at learning the story. We turned one of our role play areas into the giant's castle and the children have enjoyed acting out the story. We planted our own beanstalks and learnt about what seeds need to be able to grow. We have painted clouds, a giant, a hen and we have made a Jack and the Beanstalk area in our classroom - feel free to come and have a look. In maths we have done lots of measuring, weighing and capacity. Next week it is e-safety week and we will be doing lots of activities to learn about keeping safe when using technology.
This half term our topic has been based around the story of The Three Little Pigs. We have learnt the story, made a class story map and really enjoyed acting out the story (see photo). In our outdoor classroom the children have been making houses out of straw, sticks and building blocks. During Diwali we made Diwa lamps and the children loved decorating them (see photo). On Children in Need day we had a special visitor arrive during our Nativity rehearsal (see photos). The children also had an opportunity to play with some older children (see photo). This was really popular and we have decided that we will do this whenever we win the attendance trophy (we have won this twice so far this year). The children are becoming more confident with 2D shapes and they have carried out many activities including making repeating patterns out of 2D shapes (see photo). We have also made some Christmas decorations using 2D shapes (see photo). We are practising our Nativity play every day and the children are very excited about performing it for their families next week. We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
Wow! What a fantastic start to school the children have made. They are now in full-time and are getting used to the class routines including lunchtimes. The children really enjoyed celebrating Roald Dahl's birthday and we had some amazing costumes. We have created our class charter which was based on the ideas that the children had about how we could be safe and happy in school. Most importantly the children all appear to be enjoying school and having lots of fun which is what we hope to achieve in Reception - to foster a love of learning. We have also chosen our class name and we are now officially the Piglets Class
